KASIBULAN EVENT @ NCCA

ABOUT THE PROJECT

TAHI-TAGNING PAGSIBOL (New Life from Sewn Patches) is a project with KASIBULAN, a women’s art collective I belong to supported by NATIONAL COMMISSION FOR THE ARTS (NCCA). IT is an art exhibition and documentation about today’s Filipino women rising together, emerging with hope from lives shattered by a two-year pandemic that has disrupted daily living, health, livelihood, well-being, relationships, and mobility.

It is a collaborative project of me (as graphic designer, photographer, and artist), Imelda Cajipe-Endaya as curator, and participating artists of KASIBULAN and NCCA.

THE LOGO

The logo has two versions in Filipino (Tahi-tagning Pagsibol) and its translation in English ( New Life from Sewn Patches). The overall look style mimics the visual of sewing and stitching, which is the theme of the art exhibition. Initially, the design has an image of a needle at the tail end of the word “tahi-tagning.” But the fonts on stitches would suffice to convey the message. Deep pink chose as the brand color. The art exhibit happens during the national election, and Pink Movement is gaining momentum. It is also an open endorsement for the group’s chosen candidate Leni Robredo who we believe carries the real democracy against the typical political system in the Philippines.

The Poster

Like the logo, the poster has two versions—one in a pink background and one in light beige color background. When designing collateral, I always send 2-3 studies for the client to choose from. Our curator can’t choose between the two versions, so we decided to use both. It was a better decision since the two light/dark versions seem like a Yin/Yang creating balance in visual identity.

The Catalog

The catalog is 92 pages. They are composed mainly of the artworks, the artist’s profile, and the gallery set-up. I tried to achieve the minimal gallery feel of the layout design to retain the elegance of the exhibition.

The Show

Tahi-tagning Pagsibol ( New Life Sewn from Patches) exhibit is from March 7 to 31, 2022, at the NCCA Gallery, Intramuros Manila, as part of the celebration of Women’s Month. Though I didn’t join the show, I was happier to serve my sister artists at this event.
